New immigration appeals board planned
Mr Perinchief said the current appeal route to Cabinet has been ruled unconstitutional by the judiciary.
Now an amendment to create an independent board – chaired by a lawyer - to decide on refusals to grant work permits and on revocations of Bermudian status will go before the House of Assembly.
Mr Perinchief said: “Members of the public must have confidence in our institutions and our processes.”
Mr Perinchief added the change to immigration laws is part of a general overhaul of immigration law, highlighted recently by conflicting legislation regarding the granting of Bermudian status to children adopted from overseas.
He added: “This Government continues to deliver on its promises to modernize and improve our immigration law.”
