An Italian ship acting as a Navy training ship has moored in St. George harbour as part of its Atlantic and Mediterranean voyage.
The ship is acting as a training ship for the second-year Naval Academy midshipmen. The annual summer training cruise is a critical part of a midshipmen’s education program. During the trip the ship had a port call in Funchal, Madeira. After leaving St. George she will visit the ports of Boston and Norfolk in the U.S., Halifax, Canada, and Ponta Delgada, Azores.
Goal
The overall goal of the campaign is to enhance the education of young naval officers and constitutes their first experience onboard a ship of the fleet.
The Naval Academy complement is composed of 92 midshipmen, including 20 women and 3 foreign cadets (from Albania, Jordan and Peru.).
The ship, under the command of Captain Edoardo Giacomini, will return to Livorno on the 17th of September after navigating for more than two months through the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
