WEDNESDAY, JULY 6: The Minister for National Security today inspected the island’s junior soldiers in his first official visit to the Bermuda Regiment’s Warwick Camp HQ.
Wayne Perinchief and his permanent secretary Major Marc Telemaque, a former senior Regiment officer, visited during the two-week annual camp for the Bermuda Cadet Corps and a training exercise for the Regiment’s signallers.
Mr Perinchief was shown the hi-tech Bermytrack system, which provides signals plotting across the island.
He watched the cadets carry out an emergency evacuation exercise, treating the fake casualty for serious injuries.
Cadet Corps CO Major Henry Campbell said: “Throughout their time in the Corps the young soldiers are taught many activities which will make them better citizens, whether it’s in first aid, discipline, self-reliance, teamwork or community service.”
The Minister also saw the new Regiment beige multi-terrain pattern uniform, already used by the UK and US military on operations, which will replace the current combat gear next year.
