McClashin, Thomas to compete in Tae Kwon Do championships
Peter McClashin, 18, and Jayshon Thomas, 20, will kit up for Bermuda. The pair will be facing off against competitors from several nations including Columbia, Venezuela, the United States and Mexico.
The team is coached by Edmond Johnson, a third degree black belt and founding member of the Bermuda Martial Arts Center. In addition to fulfilling his obligations to his athletes, Mr. Johnson will be taking a coaching and refereeing course which is being put on by the Caribbean Tae Kwon Do League.
The tournament is the first in a series of youth development initiatives spearheaded by the Bermuda Martial Arts Federation.
Its long-term commitment to Bermuda's youth has already produced a wealth of outstanding martial artists, of whom Johnson is but one of many who have benefited from their guidance.
