Match to honour Soup Zuill
Bermuda Masters to take on Jamaican Association
The Warrington 'Soup' Zuill Memorial Cricket Match will feature the Bermuda Masters versus the Jamaican Association.
Soup died earlier this year and was a noted sports historian and manager of the Bermuda Masters cricket team.
The noon match at St. David's has no entry fee, but there will be a raffle for $3 with the winners being called throughout the match.
Hoyt Zuill, his son, said everyone is welcome to attend.
"One of our aims to teach the youngsters about the gentlemanly part of the game both on and off the field. We wanted the youngsters to learn good behaviour and the way you carry yourself. We wanted the youngsters to learn good sportsmanship."
Hoyt feels the Bermuda Masters have helped accomplish this since they started back in 2006 and the match is a fitting tribute to his father.
"He deserves this," Hoyt said. "He did a lot for Bermuda sports as a historian."
Last year the match was played to honour him.
"This year we'll turn around and make it a memorial. This will be an annual event."
Hoyt said Soup taught him many valuable lessons.
"I learned about being organized and being punctual. I also learned about being willing to give and to share. With him being manager of the Masters, we built another relationship of friendship because we spent time together travelling."
The Bermuda Masters had its first match in 2006 in Antigua.
"We played in their Independence Tournament, which was a masters' tournament and we won it. Then in 2007 we went to England for two weeks and played four games. We won three games and lost one.
"Last year we didn't travel and this year we're travelling to Cape Town, South Africa for 11 days to play four matches," added Hoyt.[[In-content Ad]]
