THURSDAY, DEC. 8: Bermuda Health Council chairman Linda Merritt was today named as the PLP candidate for the Smith’s South constituency.
The seat was held by Cole Simons of the UBP at the last general election, who took more than 73 per cent of the vote compared to PLP challenger Jane Correia.
But Ms Merritt, who was also Secretary General of the PLP for seven years, said people should “use their freedom to vote in good conscience and good faith because I am the best candidate.”
Announcing Ms Merritt’s candidacy, Premier Paula Cox said the candidate had also served as Pride Bermuda chairman and on the Immigration Board, among other public service roles.
Ms Cox added: “These are just a few of her civic achievements. With her record with the PLP, it’s not surprising she is ready and willing to continue public service under our banner as we put together our team to help steer us through the way forward.”
