WEDNESDAY, SEPT 5: Jessica Lewis remains buoyant ahead of her best event, the 200m, tomorrow in London.

Lewis, Bermuda’s first track athlete at the Paralympics, finished eighth on Sunday in the 100m and still has Thursday’s 200m and Saturday’s 400m to compete in.

Her mom Lorri, who is part of the Bermuda delegation at the Paralympics, said: “We have been discussing why there are so few T53 athletes here – only nine – when the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) website lists 22 in their world rankings.

“We have figured out that the qualifying times set by the IPC for the Paralympics were tough so many athletes didn’t reach the standards in the qualifying period.

“This means that Jessica has done extremely well this year qualifying for these games.

“She is listed as seventh in the world in the 100m, 10th in the world in the 200m and 12th in the world in the 400m.

“These games are a great experience in her early wheelchair track racing career.”

Lewis did some stretches yesterday to work out some stiffness she had but is ready to go for Thursday.

On Monday she spent the day sightseeing in London and stopped off at Big Ben, the House of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
