Letter: Tucker: I am shocked and disgusted
I would like to express my shock and total disgust that I have to address the devastating response that Clevie Wade had given as to his reason for quitting as coach for the Southampton Ranger Sports Club Cricket Team which appeared in the Bermuda Sun on Wednesday, February 21, 2007.
As you may be aware, there are certain procedures and regulations that operate a club.
In this circumstance, the coach is responsible to work in conjunction with the cricket chairman to organize and arrange all functions for the cricket players then present their ideas to the management committee.
It was mentioned on several occasions to the cricket chairman at management meetings to organize a celebration for the achievement of the team.
As the players did not want the usual presentation, it was left for them to decide what they wanted to do. Unfortunately, as of today, we have not received a proposal from the cricket chairman.
Futhermore, it has not been the first time that Southampton Rangers Cricket Team has won all major trophies in a cricket season. I have given acknowledgement and respect to all the team members for their endless effort and the major accomplishments for the season past but to my knowledge, I have never heard of a public holiday for a club winning all trophies.
A coach for any sport should always present a written report to the chairman or management for what the team has achieved and to provide new ideas and recommendations to improve the players and sport for a successful season.
This has not been produced by Mr. Wade. The only document that has been received from Mr. Wade was his notice on a small piece of paper stating that he is resigning at the end of the season, which he gave to the treasurer of the club approximately a month and a half before the season was completed.
This I felt was done very unprofessionally.
In my opinion, Mr. Wade should have brought any grievance and/or concerns that he had to the club and they would have been resolved internally rather than presenting his issues to the press,
On behalf of the Southampton Rangers Sports Club we would like to thank Clevie for his contributions as coach and wish him all the best as an assistant coach with the Bermuda Under-19 Cricket Team.
Sincerely,
John Tucker
