Letter to the editor
Letter: Share your arts insights
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30:
Dear Sir,
As some of your readers may be aware, I have for some years now been busily engaged in researching and writing about Bermuda’s art history, from the earliest days up to recent times.
I have recently published the first two volumes of my ‘Bermuda in Painted Representation’ trilogy, in text-only Preview Editions, copies of which I have donated to several local libraries as well as to a number of leading libraries overseas.
There is a write-up about it on the bernews.com website, archived in their History section. A fully illustrated edition of the trilogy will, I hope, see the light of day in due course, but in the meantime anyone with a serious interest in the twin subjects of Bermuda’s depiction in art, and artists in Bermuda, will find much to interest them in the Preview Editions.
The books include amateur artists as well as professionals, and quite a few Bermudians are covered. They cover artists in Bermuda up to about 1953 (and the third volume will go up to about 2000).
The books are carefully indexed by artist’s name, and extensively footnoted. I have previously also published a two-volume alphabetical-entry ‘Encyclopedia of Bermuda Artists’ (2009/2010), copies of which can be read in the main reference library in town.
The ‘Encyclopedia’ covers artists who were in Bermuda up to about 1988.
As ever, I am happy to hear from members of the public who may have original artworks or information relevant to my ongoing research. I can best be contacted by e-mail at [email protected].
Many thanks for any publicity you can give to this significant and under-reported project.
