Letter - Improve our bus service
I'm addressing this (indirectly) to our Premier and Minister of Tourism and Transportation, Dr. Ewart Brown.
Dr Brown, sir, we who travel the Number 1 bus route feel somewhat neglected... by the lack of interest shown by your ministry in reference to our requirements.
Maneuvering about via public transportation, (in particular our bus services on the South Shore), our means are extremely limited; our bus stops running too early and I'm sure I speak for many others when I say that at times, we've found ourselves stranded because there are no buses running down the South Shore (the eastern end of the Island) and as we all know, taxies can be an expensive means of commuting.
Sir, I recall recently Government contemplating offering FREE transportation for ALL...
If for some ungodly reason we are being told currently we aren't getting services due to the lack of people that utilize the number one bus/they don't travel often enough to make it feasible to the department to offer us a bus service after 6pm, then sir, if that be the truth, how are we in Bermuda going to support all bus routes if no one pays?
Ok, I'm not that naive to believe transport will be totally free to all, because indirectly somebody is going to pay. But the point I'd like to make is if bus services are to be free then there should be also buses running the number one route until 11.45pm, just like the Number 11. (People live on this side of the island as well, you know).
