Letter: Government should pay for gang mediation
Dear Sir,
I read James Whittaker’s piece from August 18, with Col. Burch opining that Government should not be responsible for financing gang intervention.
I also saw your sidebar asking if, as a taxpayer, I’d be willing to pay for gang mediation.
YES is the answer, and frankly any Bermudian who is okay with paying for the annual Ewart Brown ego-massage fest that is the Bermuda Music Festival, but not for gang intervention, should have his or her head examined.
Does our murder rate per capita have to inch further towards that of Colombia for the Government to start pumping funds into worthwhile programs like CARTEL?
I enjoy the musical stylings of Toni Braxton as much as the next girl, but I’d prefer to be able to walk around North Hamilton without worrying that I’ll be hit by a stray bullet!
