Letter - Despite his troubles, Kenwandee Robinson was a beautiful person
I am writing this to you for no other reason than I have to get this off my chest. I have known Kenwandee Robinson his entire life and words cannot describe my devastation upon hearing about his untimely and senseless death.
In his younger years, while he may not have always been the most productive, he was always well-mannered and respectful to both his peers and his elders.
As he grew older, I saw a positive change in him, especially after the birth of his son. Not a day went past when I did not see him with his son, whether it be in the grocery store, the Aquarium or just sitting outside of his house -the place where these senseless killers decided, mistakenly or not, to take his life. While he may have found himself in some trouble at times, his spirit never wavered. He was still the joyous person that we all loved.
When I saw that he had found gainful employment, I was so proud of him and often told him so because I wanted him to understand that he was on the right track. He would often say to me: "I have a family to take care of so the streets are not for me anymore."
When he lost his job a few months ago, I worried that he would revert to the street life, but he didn't. While he never turned his back on his lifelong friends, it was quite obvious that there were some activities he was distancing himself from. People can try to judge him and make assumptions but the community at large needs to understand that all of the good things that have been spoken about him are absolutely true; not just some candy coated story for the media. He was a beautiful person and did not deserve this.
I just pray that justice is served so that another family and neighbourhood does not have to suffer like we are now. May Kenwandee rest in peace. He will always be loved by all of us.
