Let's back east end hotel - Swan

FRIDAY, JUNE 3: St George’s MP Kim Swan has called on the Government to throw its weight behind plans for a hotel and marina in the town.

Mr Swan said it was crucial to the success of the George Hotel and Marina project that Government showed it was on board,

He said potential investors needed to know that they would not stand in the way of the ambitious scheme for a boutique hotel and yachting marina in the centre of the old town.

It is understood that the developers were meeting with Government this week in a bid to gain their support.

Mr Swan said: “As the St. George’s West MP and one who cares deeply for the Town of St. George, I am appealing to the PLP government to do its part to help move along the George Hotel and Marina which is before planning.

Premier port

“With the absence of a regular cruise ship in port for several years - the Town of St. George needs to see the approval of this project. Government’s blessing would go a long way.

“This would position St. George’s as the premier port in the Mid Atlantic and go a long way to assist us in reclaiming our once heralded status as a world class commercial town.”

He applauded Government’s decision to extend the maximum allowable stay of visiting yachts to 90 days and said the move combined with the new marina plan was a big boost to St George’s.

“It bodes well and would tie in nicely with plans for a boutique hotel and marina.

“The urgency for rebuilding St George’s commercially is dire and I am urging the PLP government to do all it can to fast track this project while carrying out the necessary due diligence.”
