WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29: A bill allowing larger trash trucks and fuel trucks to drive on Bermuda’s roads was passed today.

Senator Jonathan Smith read the Motorcar Amendment Act 2011 this morning.

He said there were about 48,000 registered vehicles on the Island and this amendment was relevant to a “small slice” of those vehicles.

Sen Smith said: “We are trying to work within our parameters to do what we can to make sure we are viable.

‘Things change, we can’t be the Bermuda of the 1950s and 1960s.

“The amendments today deal with a very small slice of vehicles.”

The bill was passed without any objections.
