Landro Minors is facing a tough decision

The St. David's team which won the Eastern County Cup this weekend will form the core of the St. George's squad for Cup Match again this year, I'm sure.

Landro Minors' unbeaten century on Saturday was no surprise to me. He's been showing that kind of promise for some time now and he has put himself in the frame for Cup Match.

He'll have to decide if he wants to play for St. George's or Somerset. We'd obviously love to have him stay in the east but he may feel he has a better chance to get in their side.

St. David's has produced so many good cricketers over the last decade, it would be unfair to keep them all to ourselves.

Landro played in the same youth team as Delyone Borden, OJ Pitcher, George O'Brien, Chris Foggo, Stefan Kelly, Shannon Raynor and Justin Pitcher.

All of those guys are capable of playing for St. George's and the national team. I remember they lost one game in six years of youth cricket and they are now starting to dominate at senior level too.

Thanks coach

George Cannonier, who coached those guys since they were nine-years-old, deserves a lot of credit for the quality of cricketers coming through from the east.

He's done so much for Bermuda cricket, not just St. David's cricket. We're reaping the rewards of his hard work now. He's a legend.

A lot of St. David's players, like Chris Foggo, Fiqre Crockwell and George O'Brien are the key players for other teams in the league now. And those that are left at St. David's have taken us to the top of the league.

It all comes from our youth programme.

Even when the BCB scrapped Shell cricket, we still had junior Eastern County and we still stuck to the task of bringing through youth programmes.

You don't see that as much in the west.

The only side in contention is Southampton Rangers and they don't even have a youth programme.

Somerset have started to bring through some little youngsters and Warwick has had decent youth teams in the past but it is no secret that the bulk of Bermuda's top current players have come through in the east.

It's going to be a competitive final trial game at Wellington on Saturday, that's for sure.

As always you have the nucleus of your squad set - seven or eight players who pick themselves. The trial game is about the competition for those last few spots.

Its obviously not just about that one game but a good performance on Saturday could sway the selectors.[[In-content Ad]]
