TUESDAY, JULY 31: This is not the way the Kirkland brothers imagined their Olympics would be.
The third and fourth races of the series were as unkind as the opening races.
Jesse and Zander Kirkland were 18th in Tuesday’s opening race, the third in the Olympic 49ers series. The race was won by New Zealand’s Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.
The race started well with the brothers in 10th after the first marker, but they fell near the back of the fleet at the second marker and could only recover one spot the rest of the way.
The fourth race saw the pair get another DNF.
Again they started well and were ninth after the first marker but disaster struck and they were not able to finish the race.
The American pair of Erik Storck and Trevor Moore won the race.
After four races, the Kirklands are 20th out of 20, six points behind 19th place Greece.
Racing tomorrow starts at 8am Bermuda time.
