WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1: Jesse and Zander Kirkland had their best day in the water so far in these Olympic Games.

The brothers, sailing in the 49er Class, had a 12th in the sixth race and were in contention for a top 10 finish the entire way.

Unfortunately, they also had another did not finish in the fifth race.

They were able to move up one spot in the regatta ahead of Greece.

The brothers started well and were in eighth place, just 18 seconds behind the team from Poland after the first mark. They then slipped back to 12th after the second leg as the wind dipped from 17 knots to 12.

By the fourth mark they were able to battle their way back to ninth before slipping back to 12th.

This was in contrast to the fifth race in which the recorded their third DNF of the regatta.

The Kirklands had another middle of the fleet start and were 13th after rounding the first marker. They cracked the top 10 on the next leg, but slid to the back of regatta for the next three markers.

Unfortunately, they had technical problems were not able to finish the last leg.

They have two races tomorrow, which start at 8am Bermuda Time.
