King Street may become one-way road
FRIDAY, AUGUST 31: There are provisional plans to make King Street a one-way road, the Bermuda Sun can reveal.
City engineers said that proposals would mean that traffic would only be able to travel in a northbound direction.
The move is part of a city-wide scheme to improve Hamilton's intersections and reduce congestion.
The project includes the complete overhaul of the junction at Court and Front Street to incorporate the new Hamilton Docks entrance.
City engineer, Patrick Cooper, told the Sun that the King Street plans were still in the very early stages and no timeline had been set as to when construction work might start.
He added: “We are looking at other ways of reducing congestion in the city and making King Street a one way road is one of the projects we are looking at presently.
"There are also plans to make Reid Street into three lanes where it crosses Court Street.
"That is a big pinch spot and we hope by creating a left lane, a right lane and a lane for traffic going straight on that would reduce the congestion there. That will also involve some tree removal to improve visibility for traffic.”
