Junior elites pick up cheques worth $46,040
The athletes who received sponsorship are as follows:
Seventeen-year-old Katrina Williams and the Bermuda Sailing Association received $3,600 for sailing. Last year, she was the 5th female finisher overall in the Laser Radial Class and the 3rd overall and the 1st junior sailor in the Bermuda Radial Nationals. She plans to use the money for training and to attend the Youth Worlds Competition.
Seventeen-year-old Shuntae Todd and the Bermuda Football Association received $2,300 for football. Shuntae was voted the Young Female Player of the Year by the Bermuda Football Association in 2003. She will use the money to attend the John Daly Soccer Camp and to purchase equipment.
Fourteen-year-old Rebecca Sharpe and the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association received $5,050 for swimming. She holds 24 Bermuda National swimming records over three age categories. She plans to use the money to attend the Alberta Championships, the Nick Baker Swimming Camp and video lessons and to purchase a Fastskin Hi-tech racing suit and Monofin.
Thirteen-year-old Kristian Muldoon and the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association received $5,450 for squash. Last year, he won the Allegro Insurance National Junior Championships in the under-15 boys category. He plans to use the money to attend a summer training camp, to have specialized coaching lessons, to enter a tournament and to purchase equipment.
Twelve-year-old Riann Ming and the Bermuda Gymnastic Association received $4,500 for gymnastics. She is one of the youngest members of the BGA Gymnastics Club and has been a part of the junior competitive team since 2002. She plans to use the money to compete at an international event with a coach and to bring in a choreographer to assist with her preparation for the upcoming events.
Sixteen-year-old Kelby Lusher and the Bermuda Equestrian Association received $6,850 for equestrianism. She finished first place in the FEI World Jumping Challenge for Category “A” riders in Bermuda. She plans to use the money to attend the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament from July 12-16 and to pay for the June lease fees for the horse.
Twelve-year-old David Lunn and the Bermuda Triathlon Association received $4,810 for triathlon. He has been involved in triathlon for the past three to four years and has been undefeated in his age group for the past three years.
He plans to use the money to attend the Canadian Western Regional Championships, purchase a new bike and other related equipment.
Sixteen-year-old Nick Jones and the Bermuda Junior Golf Association received $4,520 for golf. Jones won the Over-15 Age group division in the Bermuda Junior Open Atlantic Tournament. He plans to use the money to attend a selection of tournaments affiliated with the X Factor Golf Academy, airfare and transportation.
Thirteen-year-old Jessica Hollis and the Bermuda Hockey Association received $3,360 for field hockey. Hollis is the youngest player ever selected to train with the Bermuda Senior Ladies National team. She plans to use the money to attend a two week training camp at Seaford College Sports Facility during the month of August.
Seventeen-year-old Ashley Brooks and the Bermuda Tennis Association received $5,600 for tennis. Brooks was the Under 18 girls Champion at the Wilde Wood Junior Championships in South Carolina during the past year.
She plans to use the money to attend the ITF/USA Tournament, the Van Der Meer Elite Tennis Camp this summer and to purchase equipment.
During this past year she captured both the Argus Open and Island Construction Ladies A singles and doubles titles.[[In-content Ad]]
