Bermuda's gymnasts are aiming for more medals today after their unprecedented Island Games gold rush on Wednesday.

Kaisey Griffith picked up four golds on a banner day for Bermuda as they nearly swept the gymnastics event to take 14 medals - more than doubling the total for the competition so far.

And Griffith, who also picked up four golds at the last Island Games, aims to break that record today.

"I think we can do well again," she said.

"It's good to have a rest day in between."

Griffith, who won gold in every event she entered on Wednesday apart from the asymmetric bars where an early fall cost her a medal chance, feels she could have done even better.

"I started off a little rusty on the bars and the beam. I felt I could have done a lot better.

"I was really worried about my floor routine but I think the adrenaline kicked in because that turned out to be my best event."

Griffith won gold in the beam, the vault and on the floor as well as taking the overall gold for her performance in all four disciplines.

In all, the Bermuda team of Riann Ming, Caitlyn Mello, Morgan Beckles, Hannah Ming and Griffith, picked up four golds, three silvers and seven bronze medals.

"They did great," said coach Tina Williams.

"I think we gave three away in total. They would have liked to take every medal on offer but we can't be greedy can we?

"We got 14 on Wednesday, five on Monday and we've still got Friday to come."

She said there were still improvements to make.

"The girls have got their personal goals as well. They were a bit disappointed with the bars and the beam and there are a few adjustments to make."

But she said the girls had got better as the competition went on.

"This Island Games has been one of the highest levels we've done. More teams are entering and the other countries are improving.

"The girls have done really well and they have had great support from all the other sports."
