WEDNESDAY, APR. 4: Popular island entertainer Jimmy Keys has landed a contract working at the one of North America’s top resorts — The Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia.

The comedian and impersonator who performed in Bermuda for many years, begins a three-month stint on April 25 performing four shows a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sundays. It is hoped that the contract will be extended thereafter.

Keys told the Bermuda Sun: “I landed this amazing contract by pure chance. Last August, I got a call out the blue, from a British gentlemen who used to accompany many corporate clients to Bermuda in the 90s. Whilst on the island, he would always bring them along to my show at The Southampton Princess when I performed there.

“He remembered my show and called me to say he had recently started working for The Greenbrier, had recommended me highly and wanted me to come down and do a show in front of the management etc. So we drove down at the end of our summer tour in September, and it all developed from there!”

Keys said he believed there could be a big connection between Bermudians and The Greenbrier and that the hotel could be a perfect place for many on the island to visit this summer.

The Greenbrier’s theatre holds over 300 seats and carries a “cabaret revue” throughout the rest of the week.

Keys recently performed in Bermuda selling out two shows at the Mid Ocean Club around St Patrick’s Day. Keys joked: “An Englishman doing a show on St Paddy’s, the big Irish day, to Bermudians...quite a scenario... ‘Smashing, um um, top of the mornin’!”

He will be returning to Bermuda to perform his regular New Year’s Eve show at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. He added: “I am extremely excited to land this amazing opportunity. Since leaving Bermuda at the end of 1999 I have been looking for another resident gig like this, and believe me it is extremely hard to find.”
