Olympic hopeful Jenaya Wade Fray is looking forward to broadening her basketball horizons in Europe.
The Bermudian has been named on Great Britain’s Olympic team roster that will compete in 2011 Eurobasket Championship qualifiers this summer in Germany, Slovak Republic and Ukraine.
Fray and her Great Britain Olympic team teammates will warm up for the upcoming qualifiers with a tour of Belgium, Holland, Bulgaria and Israel where they intend to sharpen their skills.
Fray, who graduated from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, said: “I am excited about going to play for the Great Britain team and travelling to different places.”
Should the opportunity to sign on with an overseas ball club while overseas present itself, the guard says she would gladly sign on the dotted line.
“Hopefully I will get an opportunity to stay out there and play for somebody else,” she smiled.
Earlier this year Fray, who is currently in Scotland, led the Lady Mocs to its 13th Southern Conference title.
She ranks 12th on the Lady Mocs’ all-time scoring list with 1,345 points and last season was twice named as Southern Conference Player of the Week.
Great Britain are coached by Tom Maher who coached Australia to silver and bronze medals at the 2000 and 1996 Olympics.
This year’s roster includes a blend of youth and experience.
Maher said: “I think the balance we have between experience and emerging talent should provide us with the correct mix for what will be a challenging summer programme.” n
