WEDNESDAY,  MAR. 28: Innovative and talented designers were acknowledged at the  Bermuda Building Design Awards, sponsored by Bermuda Gas.

Judith Uddin, general manager at Bermuda Gas, said as this being the 18th year for the Building Design Awards Bermuda Gas was delighted to sponsor the March 22 event.

“We are excited to be a part of something that reflects local design and innovation.

“We simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to support and work with such talented people.”

According to a press statement, the judges awarded two winners, commercial and residential, as well as giving an award for runner-up and an honourable mention.

Architectural firm OBM International took the prize for residential winner for Casa de Mar, a beautiful ADA-compliant home.

While architect David Benevides and associate Richard Oldham carried away the award for commercial design for 31 Reid.

The NYC chic law office for Marshall Diel & Myers showcased an inspired contemporary plan.

“The awards showcase commercial and residential buildings that we know to be not only unique and inventive but beautiful as well”, said Mrs Uddin.

“We are also gratified to see that a number of the architects and interior designers actually incorporated Bermuda Gas equipment into these projects, thereby contributing to the overall design of the buildings.”

Runner up went to a residential building this year by Beryl Brown, principal architect at The Studio Ltd.

Morningside, boasted an incredible home transformation. At the same time, honourable mention went to The Highlands, designed by architectural firm Cooper Gardner.

Lead architect Lee Clarke had his hands full with this massive task. According to judges, the 10,000 square foot house overlooking the Little Sound was a highlight for this year’s awards.

The winners received striking glass statues as their awards and congratulations were extended to everyone involved.
