Inmate art to be sold for 'authentic souvenirs'

By Department of Communication and Information press release- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

TUESDAY, AUGUST 30: On Friday, September 2, 2011, Westgate Correctional Facility will be hosting a stall in Dockyard which will sell arts and crafts made by its inmates.

The correctional facility has been working collaboratively with WEDCo for a while now and this initiative is finally becoming a reality.

Inmates have made cedar works, clothing and other wares which will be sold to the general public but one of the primary aims is to sell these items to cruise ship passengers, who are always looking for authentic souvenirs when travelling to our shores.

The stall will be operational from 9 am to 3 pm.

Funds from sales will go directly to the accounts of the inmates, to be used for their families or when they are discharged.
