Ingham: I’m ready to brawl

American riders, son to challenge motocross points leader

Ingham: I’m ready to brawl

Veteran motocross rider Otis Ingham is hoping to teach his son a lesson on Boxing Day — by giving him a beating in the Champion of Champions trophy races.

Ingham, 39, and his son Aaron Cannonier, 18, are currently the top two riders on the island.

And they will go head to head at the Clearwater track on Monday in the 125cc expert class.

Aaron Pace and American A-Class rider, Ryan Nolan will be trying to break the family monopoly.

But Ingham, who is currently top of the standings, said he was in the best shape of his life and “ready for a brawl”.

He said he had a friendly rivalry with his son and was currently keeping him in second place.

“I’m smoking him right now. He likes to beat me but I think he needs to spend a little bit more time training instead of sitting on the couch.

“I’m not much of a talker, I prefer to show him how its done on the track.”

He said he hoped his son would learn his lesson and work hard to try and beat him.

Ingham added that the secret to his success had been the extra hours he had put in both on and off the track to make sure he was physically up to the challenge, despite his age.

“I’m in better shape than all of them. I'm leading the points standings and I won the last two race days, so I’m feeling very confident.

“I’ve worked hard, I’m very focused at this time in my life and I'll be giving it 110 per cent.

“They’ve brought in this guy Ryan, from the States, so I’m looking forward to a good battle with him.

“He’s in the top amateur class in the States so it should be an all-out brawl.”

Ryan Nolan is one of two riders coming in from America for the Boxing Day and New Year's races.

Jackie Wilson will come into race in the 85 cc class which has been dominated this year by number 55 — Jonte Smith.

Dean Smith, of the Bermuda Motocross Association Said the American riders had been brought in to provide some competition for the biggest race day of the year.

“They compete at a pretty high level in the States so it should be a good chance to see what sort of level we are at.”

There will also be a full set of trophy races in every class from 50cc right through to 250cc experts.

Around 1,000 spectators are expected at Clearwater for the Boxing Day races, with another round of trophy races lined up for New Year's Day.

The delayed exhibition trophy races for the official government opening of the track will take place on December 27 with Go-Karts, road bikes and motocross all taking part.

The entry fee on that day is $2 for everybody with an 11:30 am start scheduled.[[In-content Ad]]
