FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4: Bermuda has lost another young up-n-coming talented person in Landro Minors.
This was way too soon.
Landro was one of the players who helped St David’s build a dynasty over the last 10 years along with OJ Pitcher, Delyone Borden, Chris Foggo and Stefan Kelly.
They all came up together through the junior ranks.
He was one of the top players all the way through and a big part of the reason why we were successful.
I knew Landro when he was a young baby. When you come up in St David’s, you know everyone because it’s very close community.
And I watched him grow into the gentleman he was.
He was always good at cricket and football. He was one of those multi-talented players.
I knew he was going to be talented at a young age with the rest of those young guys. They all brought each other along.
I knew he was going to be a special talent.
My favourite moment of Landro, like with so many of the St David youngsters, was being able to write his name on the sheet for Cup Match.
It was fulfilling to know he was good enough and ready to play in Cup Match.
I remember when St George’s and Somerset were fighting over Landro and I told him I’m not the type of person to beg for him to play, but there is a special bond to play with the guys he grew up with.
It was so sad to learn of his passing. My sister called me in 15 to 20 minutes after it happened as she saw it on Facebook.
This is something that needs to be rectified.
His death was on Facebook before his parents even knew and that’s just plain wrong. No one should find out a close relative died through Facebook or Twitter.
After I got the call from my sister, those of us from the St David’s community rushed down to the hospital to help lend our support to the family.
We’ve had a tough month here in St David’s as OJ’s mother — Aunt Roseann — also passed. She helped bring up Landro.
We lost her and a week later we lost Landro.
God is bringing a message to those of us in St David’s and maybe its time we all start paying attention.
This is a shock. He was so young. We’ve played together and won trophies together. We’ve cried together in winning and losing.
To lose a magnificient player like Landro, just touches my heart.
This isn’t easy and won’t be easy for a long while after this.
