WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7: One of Bermuda’s top equestrian competitors will be participating next week in the final of the FEI World Jumping Challenge to be held in Guatemala City, Guatemala December 6 to 10.

Claire Howard won the right to represent Bermuda in this prestigious event by finishing second behind a rider from the Dominican Republic in our area which comprises the Caribbean and North America.

The top two riders from each of the ten FEI groups in the world are invited to this annual event, which is hosted by the local Federation and they get to ride on borrowed horses allocated by a random draw.

This is Howard’s third time at this event having competed last year in Guatemala when she finished fifth overall, and the year previous in Santiago, Chile.

There will be riders there from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Africa, making for a cosmopolitan competition.

Howard will be accompanied by her coach Dawn Fox.

Next years qualifying competition in Bermuda has been scheduled for the last weekend in March.

Terceira

Showjumper Jillian Terceira had a great end to her year with two top 15 performances in Europe.

Jillian Terceira rode Flashlight to a 15th place showing at the CSI 4* event in Salzburg, Austria in the 1.50 metre class. Competing on Bernardian van Wsetuur, she was 11th in the 1.55 ranking class.

Welcome Home Show

Terceira will be a part of four international riders who will take part in the Welcome Home Show on December 17 and 18 at the Botanical Gardens. Bermuda’s other international riders taking part will be Patrick Nisbett, Ki Minors and Rai Burch.

They will lead a team of adults and juniors in a round of show jumping while Annabelle Collins will showcase dressage in a special demonstration.

The shows will start at 9am daily.
