Bermuda's young basketball finished 27th at the Las Vegas Classic high school tournament over the holidays.

The combined schools squad lost its first three games but the players rallied to win its final match and come out with their heads held high.

Kevin Minors and Richard Warner were the stars of the squad in a tough tournament that pitted the Bermuda ballers against some of the best young players in the region.

Minors, co-captain of the squad, said it had been an eye-opener to see how high the standard was in the States.

"The first two games we lost because we were not used to the level of competition but the last two games we played a lot better.

"Our second last game was when we started playing real basketball but the team managed to pull away in the last minute of the game.

"The last game we played as a team and we worked together and it resulted in a win."

He said the final result - 27th out of 32 - had taken nothing away from the experience and the squad hoped to come back stronger next year.

"The trip was a great experience and it allowed us to see how much higher the level of competition is in America.

"Next year we will be ready for the competition.

"Vegas was fun. There was never a dull moment. I know the team greatly enjoyed the trip and I know they are looking forward to going next year."[[In-content Ad]]
