Straight off the bat/ A player's perspective
Gus did a great job, but his time was up
Gus Logie made an improvement to Bermuda cricket. He did an excellent job, particularly when he first arrived, but there comes a time for people to move on and for fresh ideas to come in and I think he's made the right choice.
We didn't always see eye to eye. There was stuff I did that he didn't like and there were some things that he did that I didn't agree with but I have respect for him as a coach and as a man of principles.
He took Bermuda to the World Cup and he can leave with his head held high.
If we're going to get back to those heights the only way forward is for another overseas coach to come in. If we don't get a quality coach then we're going to be heading right back to cricketing exile.
It is sad to say but Bermudians have a lack of respect for their own. That's just the way it is.
My personal view is that outside influence is always good. We have some quality coaches locally, particularly at the youth level, and I'd love to see them stay involved.
But it is important to have an experienced, qualified guy at the very top
If we could get someone from South Africa or Australia - the best of the best - to come in and run the whole programme I think that would be the best way forward.
We need someone who can revamp the game from top to bottom, not just a national coach.
The reason I would prefer a South African or an Australian is because of the strong academy systems in those countries.
Someone with experience of developing players and coaches would be able to take a look at the whole structure and see how we can re-structure the game on the playing side.
Coaching is different from administrating and it would be useful to have someone of that caliber to come in and look at what needs to be done in terms of development.
Whoever comes in will have to learn from the mistakes of the last few years. If players aren't meeting fitness standards or don't want to be part of the programme then we have to cut chords and work with what you have.
On a personal note I'm taking a bit of a break from cricket this season. I'll still be playing for St David's as we don't have a big squad but I won't be as involved as I have been in the past. We've got some good youngsters coming through and it is time to give them a chance.
