MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24: Bermuda’s sports clubs are being given a helping hand with a ninth-month training programme that will help them with governance, fundraising, financial management and volunteer management.
Five sports clubs were announced on Monday to take part in the next phase of the programme.
The Sporting Club Education Programme is a partnership between the Bermuda Football Association and The Centre on Philanthropy.
All administrative and management tasks are overseen by the Bermuda Football Association. The Centre is responsible for conducting the workshops and providing one-on-one assistance and support.
The two groups created SCEP as in many neighbourhoods, sports clubs have played an integral role in the social fabric of their community by providing activities for young people and serving as a local social spot and community gathering place.
In the past several years sports clubs have been plagued by acts of violence, perceptions of financial mismanagement, and a growing need to improve their board practices and financial processes.
Taking part in the initial pilot programme were: Bermuda Athletic Association, North Village Community Club and Somerset Cricket Club.
The five clubs taking part in the next phase are: Dandy Town Hornets, Pembroke Hamilton Club, St George’s Cricket Club, X-Roads Warriors FC and Young Men’s Social Club.
