It's Miller time for Bromby

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15:

Snooker

Peter Bromby won the Miller Snooker Tournament last Saturday, but he was almost eliminated in the semis.

Bromby was up against Maurice Hawkins in the first of two semi-finals and went down to defeat. With his back to the wall, he came won the next two games to advance to the final. Stewart Greenslade faced off against Mike Zimmerman in the other semi-final with Greenslade taking the first game.

Zimmerman wanted to write his own heroic comeback story and took the second game to level things up. But it wasn’t meant to be as Greenslade held on to win the rubber match.

Bromby then defeated Greenslade in three straight games in the finals. The Sandys Boat Club man won 47 to 35. 47 to 26 and 59 to 34.

The next Miller Challenge Handicap Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 at Warwick Workman’s Club.

Softball

BNY Mellon Hedgehogs downed Black Magic 23 to 11 in a Division 2 game at Michael Preece Softball Stadium last Thursday.

In the evening’s nightcap PWC started their year off right with a 26 to 3 victory over BGA.

Black Magic evened their record with a 30 to 5 mercy victory over BGA.

The Wett & Wild Zebras defeated the Atlantic Stitches Skylights 13 to 4.

The Hedgehogs took control of the Division with a 20 to 5 win over St George’s Ponys.

Precision Cabling Panthers edged past Bermuda Pest Control 18 to 17 in a Division 1 contest.

Tonight’s games pit Bermuda Pest Control against Docksiders Tuff Dogs at 6pm and Rosa’s Banditos playing the Paraquet Flyers at 7:30pm.

Martial Arts

A small number of martial artists competed at Sensei Roots’ 17th Invitational Tournament.

Grand champions for forms were Shaun Prinsloo (novice), Cainan Tucker (intermediate) and Priya Phillips (intermediate).

Kent Bean continued to demonstrate superior form in both empty hand and weapon, both uncontested. 

Andrea McKey had the same result in the women’s advanced division.  Sparring winners in contested divisions were Tayah Smith (girls 6-9) and Anzar Talbot (boys 10-11).
