Expat professionals 'at risk of exploitation'

FRIDAY, MAY 6: White collar migrant workers in Bermuda are just as at risk of exploitation as foreigners in blue collar and domestic roles, Bermuda Industrial Union leaders said yesterday.

George Scott, chief union organiser, said more professionals from developing countries were being hired to do jobs in the island’s insurance and reinsurance industry.

He said: “They are definitely being paid less than equivalents from elsewhere because what they earn is based on what they could earn in their homelands. It is exploitation and our position is that everyone should be paid the going rate for the job in Bermuda.”[[In-content Ad]]
