Empower yourselves with positive thinking

FRIDAY, JUNE 22: This week I want to send a message for a special group of young people, but first I would like to say thank you to all the students that participated in the Hope4Life/ Gibbons Company Homework buddy programme at the Victor Scott School this past year.

There were over 40 students, along with many teachers and volunteers that was able to make this programme a success.

I wanted to take this time to applaud you and thank you for your hard work and dedication. I want to acknowledge the Gibbons Company for their support and having the vision and understanding of the importance for such programme.

I want to spend this column sending a special message out to all the young people graduating and moving on to their next task.

It doesn’t matter if that task is going to another school, college or moving into the workplace.

I want to let you know that I am very proud of your sacrifice, determination and willpower to complete such a great accomplishment. I do not want your hard work to go unnoticed by people like myself who sometimes get so busy that we tend to miss these important moments.

My message to you is around two words “never forget”.

Never forget the teachers that guided you in the direction of success, even if they were hard on you.

Never forget the friends whose heart you have captured and saw comfort in over years when you were together — even if some days you felt the they was not able to support and help you as you may have wanted.

Never forget those long nights doing homework, studying and stressing over the times when you had to make sacrifices to stay inside the house to finish.

See, my young people, never must you forget the days your parents were driving you crazy with the repeated questions about: How was school? Where was your homework or even stressing to you the importance of education.

Opportunity

Never do I want you to forget the school; the school that was like a second home to you; the school that was responsible for developing your tools for success; the school that helped mold who you are; the school that allowed you to develop your skills and provide a platform of opportunity.

There is one thing you must always remember to do after you leave and that is to visit your school you are leaving behind and say ‘thank you’ and try your hardest to give them the same support they gave you so they could continue to be encourage to graduate many more like you.

My young people, you are now moving on to your next journey. You are now moving one step closer in building a career for yourself.

You will now face many obstacles along the way, but you will now be required to maintain your focus and battle through all the hard times that you will face. Remember, my young people, do not to let anything stand between you and what you want in life.

Yes, I know it will be hard moving on.

I know it will be more pressure getting adjusted to new students, teachers and your new school.

I understand that your sacrifices will become much greater in your journey ahead, but the one thing you must not do is look back and lose your footsteps towards your success.

Please, my young people, continue to empower yourself with positive thinking, surround yourself around positive people and continue to dream big. This will help prepared you to conquer the world.

To all my graduates, I want to say thank you for all your hard work in completing your task.

You should be proud of yourselves and never must you let this moment go to waste.
