Drunken dancing, sexual tension...the spotlight was on me!
The colour schemes were meant to announce your social status: Green clothing meant you’re single and “good to go”, an ensemble containing yellow signified a more cautious “go with the flow” attitude, while those in red were off limits, communicating that they are already spoken for.
Jon Legere and the Dirkistan Freedom Fighters kept the crowd of revellers who packed the hotel’s ground floor banquet hall moving to an eclectic mix of club anthems, techno, hip hop and reggae till the wee hours.
Promoters added fuel to the fires of drunken sexual tension by giving everyone in attendance a tag labelled with such colourful words as ‘legend’, ‘penis envy’, ‘slut’, ‘tease’ and ‘doggie style’. Those who found their counterparts of the opposite sex carrying the same label were awarded a free drink — and possibly more — depending on the colour each was wearing.
The game justified walking up to attractive strangers and asking: “Are you a tease?” and “Do you like doggie style?” with less apprehension than the usual clubgoer was used to.
A glance around the room at various stages of the night saw a flux in the colour ratios. Naturally, as people in green paired up and took off, the number of outward singles decreased as the night went on, and those in yellow and red tended to remain longer.
Not everyone was dressed appropriately, however. That is to say, not everyone wore one of the three proscribed colours. Excuses for not dressing in green, yellow or red ranged from the rebellious to the infinitesimal. When asked, John and Jane Q. Reveler said they were wearing a bright blue top or an orange dress because they didn’t care for the party’s theme and were dragged there by friends, or they liked the theme but didn’t own a stitch in the appropriate colour.
The upbeat and carefree vibe lent to the party’s overall success, and although this correspondent didn’t find his girl with the matching word — and a suitable candidate in green didn’t do much to find him — a fun and unique night out was had nonetheless.
Here’s hoping there’s more green than red at any future
party.[[In-content Ad]]
