Proving that Bermuda is another world, Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert gave an impromptu song at the Bermuda Appreciation Dinner at the Plateau restaurant at Canary Wharf as part of the World Travel Market celebrations in London last week.
Backed by the group Tempo, Mr Furbert sang the popular Bermuda is Another World to travel bloggers attending the dinner.
The Department of Tourism said: "Over 25 travel bloggers attended the event and Minster Furbert’s song has reached an audience of over 130,000 with tweets and blogs. The Bermuda Department of Tourism’s FaceBook page received supportive comments, while the YouTube video featuring the Minister’s solo is steadily gaining views."
The video had 64 views since being uploaded 14 days ago (with three of those being by the Bermuda Sun on Sunday).
Randy Wilcott, director of sales and marketing at Elbow Beach Hotel, who attended the dinner said: “Not only were customers impressed with the serenade but they were also touched by Minister Furbert’s passion for Bermuda as a world-class vacation destination and his sincere expression of our gratitude for the business they bring to Bermuda.”
Sara Dolan, British Airways partnership manager tourist boards added: “I attended the Bermuda Appreciation Dinner at WTM and was pleasantly surprised to be serenaded by the new Minister of Tourism, who it has to be said, has an amazing voice.”
The Bermuda Appreciation Dinner offered the chance for Bermuda to recognize some of their key partners with awards for their support for the destination. Winners on the evening included Purely Bermuda and BA Holidays who were both awarded with the Excellence in Partnership Award. Adventures in Radio took the prize of Outstanding Partnership for their broadcast promotion that took place earlier this year.
