MONDAY, NOVEMBER 14: William Spriggs and Corey Butterfield have recently joined the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
The pair will work as economic development officers and will provide support to the newly designated Economic Empowerments Zones (EEZs) in Somerset and St George’s, respectively.
Patrice Minors, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, said: “We are delighted to welcome two gentlemen to our team who have a passion and drive for moving our goals forward with respect to the Somerset and St George’s EEZs.
“Strengthening our economy and assisting our small businesses during these tough times has been a key priority for this Government, and it will take a unified effort consisting of committed and dedicated individuals to press our economic empowerment agenda.”
Mr Spriggs has worked with the BEDC for many years. He was general manager of the organisation and also acted as a consultant assisting with the early stage EEZ research and project managed key initiatives in support of the regeneration of North East Hamilton.
Mr Spriggs said: “The responsibility for supporting the growth of the Somerset Economic Empowerment Zone is a privilege and gives me a significant opportunity to work with many of my friends, hard working Somerset business owners and soon-to-be entrepreneurs to create our very best works for the betterment of Somerset.”
Mr Butterfield comes to the BEDC with a foundation of policy creation, legal and analytical research, and commercial and business experience.
He founded his consultancy firm, Ardella, in 2008, which is a policy and research entity that specialises in human rights advocacy, providing strategic plans and advice for companies, NGOS, charities and individuals.
Prior to being officially appointed as officer for the St George’s Economic Empowerment Zone, he worked with the EEZA as a consultant helping to establish the Rubber Tree Market, and create development polices for the North East Hamilton EEZ.
He also wrote a report that was used to help establish the designation of the Somerset EEZ.
Mr. Butterfield said: “I am very excited to continue a life of service to Bermudians. I look forward to working with the individuals, businesses and organisations in St. George’s to empower them to increase their profitability and enhance their quality of life.”
