Corporate Games set to dominate weekend sporting calendar

Most of the athletes are from Bermuda, but up to 70 participants will be travelling to the island from Toronto, Orlando, New York, Colorado, Miami, California, the UK, Bucharest and Istanbul.
The Bermuda Games is breaking records in the global Corporate Games community, by having the most athletes per capita to ever compete in the global phenomenon.
With over 85 participating companies and close to 1,500 athletes competing in 15 different sports, the Games has attracted 3.25 per cent of Bermuda’s working population — the largest percentage ever in Corporate Games history.
The Games, which has its opening reception and registration on Thursday night, competition begins on Friday with squash, tennis, bowling and golf.
The Games run through to Sunday, will see every day athletes representing large and small companies, organizations and charities, spreading out across the island to compete in sports in a spirit of friendly competition.
Socials
Organizers had originally hoped for competition in 18 sports, but rugby 7s, touch rugby and ball hockey were scratched from the event.
Throughout the four day sporting festival, the athletes and the public are also invited to attend four different social events including a beach barbecue and after —party at the Deep night club on Friday to a street festival on Front Street, complete with live bands, international food stalls, prizes and a grand parade of all athletes.
Atlantic Region Licensee holder, Suzie Pewter, president of the Whitfield Group Ltd., said in a press release: “We’re so proud of the amount of enthusiasm, energy and participation we’ve received from the local and global community, and this is only our first year.
“My mindset in purchasing the license for the Atlantic region was to give Bermuda another platform to build global business development opportunities, expose Bermuda’s natural beauty and sporting facilities to the world and provide a welcome distraction to social and economic challenges that we’ve been experiencing.
“ I’m happy to say, that with the help of the team at the Bermuda Corporate Games, our Sponsors and the entire community our mission has truly been accomplished.”
