The Centre on Philanthropy’s biennial Third Sector Conference this year is themed “Changing Our World” and will take place on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26, at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

It is an opportunity for all those in the charitable sector, including charities, non-profits, donors and volunteers, to gather, learn and collaborate on how they can improve their organization and the Third Sector as a whole.

“Changing our World” is both a personal and an organizational task that will require cooperation and collaboration amongst those already working to create a better community, a better Bermuda, and a better world.

Statistics show that a large sector of volunteerism is conducted by people in faith-based organizations and churches.

As a result it was necessary for the Centre to address this important resource of giving in our country.

As a result the Centre has secured an outstanding speaker in which there will be two workshops for faith-based organizations, charities and churches.

This year’s speaker for the faith-based community is Sherrye Willis, founder of Faith & Philanthropy Institute and the executive director of the Esping Family Foundation.

She directs over $10 million in foundation assets and distributes over $500,000 in charitable grants annually.

In a philanthropic career spanning two decades she has held leadership positions with the Dallas Community College Foundation, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Symphony Association and the Center for Nonprofit Management’s Nonprofit Loan Center.

Ms Willis will be teaching the first workshop on Friday, February 25 from 10:15 to 11:45am entitled, “Starting a Community Ministry”.

If your church desires to reach beyond its four walls and serve the community, but is not quite sure where to start, this session will provide your congregation with the insight and tools to begin. You will learn the initial steps to developing a community outreach ministry, gain insight into how to start building relationships with both your neighbours and other institutions and identify strategies to involve your congregation in planning and implementation.

Faith is at the core of our society. Faith-based community outreach provides an opportunity to put faith into action by serving the economically disadvantaged in the community.

Initiative

This session will provide a blueprint to organizing a faith-based initiative that reaches into the community you serve.

The second workshop will be on Saturday, February 26.

Part 1 will be from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm and Part II will be from 1-2:30pm.

This workshop will be entitled, “Building a Fundable Faith-based Organization”.

This workshop is geared towards congregations and faith-based organizations engaged in serving the poor, needy and disadvantaged and will examine how fundraising is vital to sustaining the mission of congregations and faith-based organizations providing community development and provide practical tools for creating a culture of generosity within faith communities.

The total list of speakers includes some of the leading minds and personalities in the non-profit world.

There are 25 workshops spread over the two days on everything from fundraising to corporate giving strategies and more.

The price for Centre members is $300 for one day and $350 for both days.

For non-member it is $400 and $450 respectively.

This year’s conference will surely equip you to be more effective in your area of influence.
