CedarBridge Academy's boys' basketball team only won one game, but they won over the hearts of spectators at the Vegas Valley Invitational Basketball Tournament.

It was the team's never give up attitude that helped it win the tournament's Most Sportsmanlike Team Award.

The squad lost 84 to 20 to Mojave High School, 82 to 30 to Desert Pines High School and 50 to 24 to Chaparral High School in the after Christmas tournament. The team showed improvement over the tournament and came away with a victory in the 15th place game as they defeated Roosevelt High School from California.

Richard Warner had 34 points in what is believed to be the first victory by a Bermudian high school in basketball on U.S. soil.

CedarBridge trailed 26 to 19 at half-time, but turned up the pressure in the second half to win the game 55 to 45.

Forrest Williams impressed with his defence to make the All Tournament Team.

Richard Warner scored six points for CedarBridge in its loss to Mojave, a school that was a Nevada state finalist from the previous year.

In the boys' next game, Adrian Levine scored 12 points and Warner added 10 in the loss to Desert Pines.

In the loss to Chaparral, Williams had seven points.

Sports Minister El James congratulated the players and cheerleaders at a reception earlier this month.

He said in a press release: "We are all proud of you, and your hard work."[[In-content Ad]]CBA 20, Mojave 84
