Catering firm launches ready meal delivery service
Everyone has nights when they do not want to cook — especially when you get home late from work or have been running around after the children.
Usually you would heat up a ready-made frozen meal in the microwave.
Convenience foods may be easy but they are not always a healthy option.
A catering company is now aiming to change this, offering low-cost and nutritious dishes.
Food 4 Thought, which caters for events and parties, has launched Supper Solutions, which will deliver a week’s worth of meals to your door, ready to be heated up or frozen.
They have a variety of entrees, combining protein with starch and vegetable sides, all freshly prepared.
Special
You place your order online five days in advance and the team delivers to your home or workplace on Monday afternoon.
Peter Jovetic, Food 4 Thought CEO, said: “It’s all about giving people more time to spend with their children, partners or families, but to provide good healthy meals, too.
“If a parent would like a special dish for their child, they can just contact us and we will prepare it for them.
“We will change the menu every three to four weeks, using seasonal local ingredients.
“It is ready to go and you are serve a meal which contains your protein, vegetables and starch.”
Mr Jovetic formed the company in 1999. The British chef arrived in Bermuda in 1982 to work as a sommelier at the Newport Room at Fairmont Southampton Resort.
He then opened Port O’Call on Front Street with Fritz Reiter before working as the restaurant manager at Newstead for a year. Next he decided to set up his own business.
Mr Jovetic has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants such as The Alpenhof and the The Waldhotel Friedrichsruhe in Germany. He also set up his own nouvelle German cuisine restaurant in Munich named Weinhaus Neuner, working as the maitre d’ and sommelier.
Food 4 Thought combines his many years of experience as a chef, restaurant manager and business owner. He said: “Now I work for myself I’m back in the kitchen, so I do a bit of everything.”
The company specialises in catering for corporate clients, parties, weddings and even divorces.
The firm won the Bermuda Business Association’s Caterer of the Year award last year.
The company’s philosophy is: “Cook from scratch using fresh, local and sustainable ingredients. And always have enough food to feed the French Foreign Legion.”
Vegetarian
Supper Solutions’ dishes include beef stroganoff, rockfish with a pineapple salsa, chicken tikka masala and salmon topped with pesto on mashed potatoes.
There are also vegetarian options and gluten free and diabetic meals, plus the company will cater to a client’s cultural needs.
Food 4 Thought, based in St George’s, employs another four chefs, includi-ng Canadian Nicole Rozon.
She said: “We discuss their taste preference, what an event is about and the nationality of the guests.
“A Tokio Millennium Re party would have mainly Japanese guests, so we would not be serving up American chicken wings.
“We tailor but add a Bermudian flavour to everything. We get our produce from Wadson’s Farm and I go to the farmers’ market to pick up our herbs and vegetables.
“We also use Albatross Fisheries to get fresh mahi mahi, wahoo and rockfish.
“We are a boutique caterer rather than your standard chicken wings-and-meatballs fare.”
Ms Rozon and Mr Jovetic set up Supper Solutions after visiting companies on the island and seeing couples working late and arriving home separately.
Ms Rozon said: “We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if you could come home to a meal of freshly-made ingredients that would be delivered to you on a Monday afternoon and you could just take home?’
“These meals don’t include the chemicals of those you buy at the store.
“With all the problems of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, healthy eating is a serious issue.”
Clients must choose at least five entrees by Wednesday of the previous week and the team will prepare them over the weekend.
The average price for a 24 oz lamb, chicken or fish entrée plus a side dish is $18.
