Brown needs to represent us all
You asked for an opinion on Dr. Brown's verbal attack on Grant Gibbons last week. I find it deplorable that our Premier would use such hateful language and threaten physical harm against a respected Member of Parliament.
Rather than address the legitimate issue of where taxpayers money is being spent, he avoids an honest debate and instead attacks the messenger. What would he have done if a black member of Parliament raised such questions? For a man that claims to be visionary, he spends an awful lot of time looking in his rear view mirror and reminding Bermudians of past injustices that occurred long ago.
The Premier would have been a stronger leader by rising above any accusations against him or his wife (who is now a public figure and thus fair territory for scrutiny) by simply not entertaining a response to claims he considers unwarranted. Instead, he lowers himself to gutter politics by accusing legitimately elected officials of being white supremacists or racists, a label he knows not to be true.
Dr. Brown is showing his true colours. He will continue to polarize the races because he wants to divide and conquer. His goal is to rid the island of all those who oppose him. Why else would he ask Whitehall if citizenship would be granted to those who may desire it after independence and also saying he wants the opposition party to be obliterated?).
Dr. Brown needs to be reminded that he represents all of Bermuda and while it is fair to encourage more opportunities to blacks who he believes were disadvantaged, he need not promote this agenda while dismissing all those who may not look like him.
