On July 8 my family was travelling with a group of 33 friends from Nazareth, Pennsylvania onboard the Explorer of the Seas.
This was our third trip to your beautiful island , but the first for our three children aged, 22, 18 and nine.
Part of our group spent the day touring on motorscooters (yes, we heard all the warnings concerning their safety, but we never had a problem on our two previous visits). We love the scooter experience and my husband has owned a motorcycle for many years.
As we were heading toward South Road my three children, who were on two scooters, crashed into each other.
The sight of my children lying in the road was frightening to say the least, but what made this scary experience easier to cope with was the comfort and caring attitude of the Bermuda citizens.
A huge 'thank you' goes out to the following people:
n The ambulance and paramedic personnel who were so kind and
thorough;
n The firefighters who responded so quickly and were so kind;
n The young woman who offered her own yellow shirt to cover my daughter's wounds because gnats were swarming over her skinned arms and knees. The shirt ended up blood-stained;
n The gentleman at the hospital who stayed with us checking my children's injuries until the ambulance arrived;
n The woman who witnessed the crash, directed the necessary help via her cellphone, and stayed with us the entire time;
n The police woman who followed the taxi back to the Royal Navy Dockyard and our ship.
My daughter's injuries were not as serious as many have experienced. She suffered lacerations to her knee and knuckles, 'road rash' on her shoulder and arm, a broken foot and a cracked heel. My sons had a few minor cuts.
Had we not been in Bermuda I wonder if we would have been so comforted by the kindness of strangers. We were blessed that day since we avoided a tragedy. We were also blessed by the lovely people of Bermuda who came to our aid in our time of need.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Until we meet again...we will always consider you friends.
