Bermuda's gymnastics team continues to strike so much gold they should open their own mint.

The team attended the USAIGC NATIONALS (United States of America Independent Clubs) last weekend in Fort Lordadale, Florida.

Coach Tina Billington said the "senior team attended the meet with the aim of regain the Platinum level team title."

Well, mission accomplished.

Kaisey Griffith, also took the overall gold medal followed by team-mate Riann Ming who took the overall silver.

Caitlyn Mello competed in an older age category completed the first day of competition coming seventh overall.

Billington said all three seniors made individual apparatus finals and returned to Bermuda with the winning banner.

Kaisey Griffith (age 12-14) Took home four golds by winning the all around,  individual apparatus vault, bars and floor titles.

Riann Ming, also competing in the 12-14 Platinum level, won the title, Beam, that Griffith missed out on and was runner-up in the all around, vault and floor events.

Caitlyn Mello, competing one age level up at 15+, was seventh in the all around and runner up in the vault.

Two years ago the Bermuda gymnastics team won more than half the medals claimed by Bermuda in the Island Games, but Rhodes elected not to include the event for this year's games (see page 53).

The team will be competing in the unoffical Island Games gymnastics event, which will be held in the Isle of Man. With it not being with the official Island games, The IGA Games Gymnastics organizers have introduced a different set of rules and are allowing a junior team to enter this year to gain valuable experience ready for the 2009 Games. This means that there will be 10 gymnasts representing Bermuda aged between 11-15yrs.

Billington said: "Both the junior and senior team take part in three competitions while we are away changing routines each day to accommodate the rules set. This proves to be one of the most complex competitions that the team attends due to the daily changes.  Normally a gymnast will travel performing one routine on four events."

The 2007 Island Games Team members are:

Senior team - Hannah King,  Caitlyn Mello,  Catherine Araujo,     Kaisey Griffith, Riann Ming.

Junior team -  Rebecca Forgesson (12),  Morgan Beckles (12),  Rosie Finnigan,(11)  Taylor Cleave (11)   Amber Lopes (11)[[In-content Ad]]
