Bermuda to host Americas regional cricket championship
The Championship is scheduled to take place May 29 to June 7. Bermuda, U.S., Canada, Cayman Islands, Argentina and the winner of the ICC Americas Division 2 will compete in an eight-day tournament. Games will be held at the National Sports Centre and at local clubs across the island.
Reginald Pearman, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board, said: "The BCB is delighted to secure the rights to host the ICC Americas Regional Division 1 Championship once again. We are still finalizing the logistics with our local providers and hope that the event can be delivered within the budget constraints set. This will be an excellent opportunity for Bermudians to come out to support their team at home."
In other cricket news, Richard Austin has been selected from the ICC Americas 'A' Panel of Umpires to officiate at the ICC Americas Division 2 Championship. The Division 2 Championship is made up of teams from Brazil, Panama, Surinam, Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos. The tournament is scheduled to take place February 1 to February 6 in the Bahamas.
Coup
Additionally, the BCB has secured a major feat for its stakeholders by creating an opportunity for two Bermudian scorers. The BCB is delighted to be able to send Lovett Dickinson from St. George's Cricket Club and Llewellyn Hall from Western Stars, to score at the ICC Americas Division 2 Championship. This follows the success in October 2009 when the BCB successfully negotiated the opportunity to send two Bermudian umpires to Chile to officiate the ICC Americas Region Division 3 Championship.
President of the Bermuda Cricket Board, Mr. Reginald Pearman stated,
"I am delighted to see that Bermudian officials are getting recognition and experience at the international level.
"This is the first time the BCB has been able to send two scorers to an international tournament. Part of the BCB's Development Plan is to increase exposure for our officials and I would like to thank Neil and the BCB staff who continuously create these opportunities for our local officials."[[In-content Ad]]
