The Bermuda Sanshou Association team found a chest full of gold in Dallas, Texas last weekend at the 10th Annual Taiji Legacy International Martial Arts Tournament.

The Bermuda team claimed nine gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the event.

Kent Bean Jr. topped the medal count with gold medals in Traditional Northern Open Hand Forms, Traditional Staff, Open Form, and Open Weapons.

The 12-year old Bean wowed the crowd with his speed and power in the traditional events and provided an excellent display of drunken boxing in the open events.

In a division deep with numbers and talent, young Bean was able to battle his way to a silver medal in the 12-15 Years Point Sparring Division.

Both Reuben Bean and Garon Wilkinson secured gold medals in the two form divisions in which they took part. Bean took first place in Wing Chun Form and Wing Chun Dummy with a solid display of the style.

Garon Wilkinson duplicated his teammates' performance in the Open Short Weapon where he performed a drunken straight sword form to take first place and then followed that with a flawless chain whip performance to take gold in the Open Flexible Weapon division.

Both Bean and Wilkinson claimed bronze medals in their respective weight divisions in San Shou.

Jermal "Goofy" Woolridge continued his winning ways and perfect fight record to claim gold in the San Shou Heavyweight Division.

Under the guidance of his corner men Devrae Noel-Simmons and Damion Wilson, Woolridge romped to victory in fine form at the extremely competitive event.

Coach Oscar Lightbourne was also successful in being certified as a judge in san shou and judged a number of bouts during the tournament.

The team is in training to compete in the Sanshou Olympic Tournament, which will take place in Beijing, China during next year's Olympic Games.[[In-content Ad]]
