The students acted as consultants for a fictitious family who required financial services and products tailored to meet their respective needs.
Bermuda Institute won first place in the challenge, Mount Saint Agnes took second place and CedarBridge Academy placed third.
Each team was required to produce a detailed financial plan and present its proposal to a panel of six distinguished business leaders, including Challenger Banks CEO and former Premier Sir John Swan, and president and CEO of Butterfield Bradford Kopp.
The six competing schools were the Berkeley Institute, Bermuda High School, Bermuda Institute, CedarBridge Academy, Saltus Grammar School and Mount Saint Agnes Academy.
Mr. Kopp said: “Among the greatest contributions we can make in our community is to invest in the education and development of our young people.
“By giving local students the opportunity to work with experienced mentors and apply their skills and knowledge to solving real world business issues, the Butterfield Student Challenge is a valuable and unique learning experience.
“I was highly impressed by the quality of the presentations and I would like to congratulate everyone who was involved in this very successful event – from the mentors and judges, to the coordinators both at the schools and within the Bank, and particularly the students themselves who worked so hard.”
Sir John Swan said: “I congratulate the students on their magnificent performances. Events like this help sow the seeds of Bermuda’s future success.”
The winning teams received cash prizes.
A recording of the competition will be broadcast on CITV in December 2010.
