Bermuda could field two cricket national teams — on same day
If the globetrotting cricketers make it through to the semi-finals of the Caribbean Stanford 20/20 competition they will be slated to compete in Antigua and Canada on the same day.
The proposed solution? Two national teams.
The Stanford semis are scheduled for August 11 and the final for August 13.
Bermuda also has two one-day internationals against Kenya in Canada on August 9 and 10 and more importantly a four-day Intercontinental Cup clash with the Canadians between August 12 and 15.
Bermuda Cricket Board chief Neil Speight said the board was preparing to have two teams ready for that busy fixture period.
He said it was impossible to say which would take precedence - although the million dollar top prize makes the Stanford 20/20, at least on paper, the more alluring.
Speight said he was aware of the fixture clash and the board was making contingency plans for a 'best case scenario' which would see the cricketers competing on two fronts at the same time.
“We are preparing to have two teams available if that eventuality arises. Looking at the Stanford draw we've got Jamaica and then Guyana so it will be tough to make the semis.
“But if the best comes to the best we'll be ready.”[[In-content Ad]]
