The lads have to wait on the outcome between Guyana and Barbados to see who they will play.
Bermuda made a few changes from the team that beat Bahamas 13 to 10 at home a month or so ago, with veterans Chris Naylor and Greg Garside returning to the starting line up, and Scott Cobon and Aldo Campbell making their debuts.
Assistant team manager Peter Dunlop said Bermuda's stronger and more disciplined forward pack dominated the game from the start, winning three penalties early on, which were calmly kicked over by Greg Fraser.
Bermuda kept up the pressure, retaining possession for long periods, when, after a fine forward drive Allan Steynor went over for a try. Fraser kicked the conversion and a further penalty.
At half time the score was 19-0.
Dunlop said Bermuda continued to apply the pressure in the second half.
“When in possession Mexico tried to spin the ball wide but were closed down by Cobon, Garside and Alun Thomas.
“Naylor made two good breaks and soon after, following a well-executed backs move, Garside was put through for a try, untouched, under the posts — converted by Fraser. The Bermuda team tired and Fraser's kicking faltered as the high altitude took its toll.”
Mexico rallied late and scored a consolation try but Bermuda took the game 26-7.
The team is likely to play Guyana in Guyana, but both Barbados and Trinidad could also be the team’s opponents.
The match must be played by July 7.
