Basden helps Caceis to surprise win
The B Division's top seed lots the first game of the best of three series to Caceis, who barely squeaked into the playoffs with a tie-breaker game.
Blueprinting had the early lead by plating two runs in the second and two more in the third while shutting down Caceis for no runs. The underdog then scored six runs in the fourth, two on a Dwayne Basden (4-5) homer and three on a Shermel Mallory (2-4) home run. Blueprinting retained the lead though with five runs of their own, two on a Jason Ming (2-4) home run.
But Caceis had found its gear and plated 15 runs over the next three innings to win the game 21 to 12. Jeff Jane (4-5, HR), Dean Douglas (3-5) and Kent Turner (3-5) also starred in the win for Caceis.
Keith Bridges and David Gibbons were both 3-3 for Blueprinting.
Argus sweeps
BEST Shipping
Two very tight games saw Argus prevail by one run in each case.
In game one Argus scored six in the first as Tory Richard (3-3) hit a three-run homer. Best trailed by just one run in the fifth, 9-8, as Micah Means (2-4) helped bring his side close. Best scored five in the sixth while Argus countered with four of their own to knot the score at 13. Argus won the game as they were gifted two walks and Larry peck (2-4) drove home the game winner on a double. Dean Fudge was 2-2 for the winners while Andre Trott and Aaron Madeiros were both 2-4 for BEST. Nelson Arruda (2-3) homered in the loss.
Game two was even more exciting as a vocal crowd brought air horns to lend intensity to the contest. Both sides were even at nine runs as the top of the seventh rolled around. BEST then scored 10 runs in its half of the inning as Nelson Arruda (3-3) hit his second home run of the game. Sporting a 19-9 advantage, BEST went into the field feeling confident, but the wheels soon came off the cart. Argus scored 11 runs and didn't even use one of its outs as it recorded one of the wildest wins this playoffs. Tory Richard (2-4) was walked intentionally to bring up Dean Fudge (3-5) who then plated Richard and Bryan DeCouto (3-3) to tie the game at 19. Dan Scott then hit the game winner to push Argus into the finals. Jonathan Correia was 4-5 in the losing cause.
