Ballers to defend gold
FRIDAY, JULY 1: Bermuda’s men roared past Gibraltar 88 to 52 to set them up to win back to back gold medals.
They will face Saaremaa.
Bermuda will be looking to avenge a 70 to 72 group play loss against them. Saaremaa made it to the finals by defeating Rhodes 105 to 102.
Player Steven Simons said: “We have one more game to play to reach our goal.
“Today we were really locked in and focused as the veterans did a good job of keeping guys focused on the goal.
“We got off to a great start and the whole team played well.
“We face Saaremaa and have the opportunity to be the first back-to-back gold medalists.
“We will leave it all on the court.”
Simons said they have reviewed the game tape from the first Saaremaa game and “have learned from that experience. We’re excited to make up for our early loss, but to be honest, the gold medal is all we’re focused on at this point.
The women were not as fortunate yesterday as they faced a dominant Menorca team, who beat them 100 to 32. The women will play Guernsey for the bronze.
